I know we had some people that were interested in photography/sharing pics so I thought you might like a thread to link pics to or put them directly in your messages.
Anymore Alaska pics Eagle? Someone should hurry and post in here before I do nothing but bore you with cat pictures.

Oh wow, very cool and somehow, exactly how I picture Ireland. Maybe you can load in a few more as the mood strikes and give us a whole overview of the trip. If we get Peanut over here, we'll have two Irish viewpoints, that would be neat.
ETA: Oh, I can go through your whole album thanks to photobucket. THAT rocks!

Yep, I've got some pics of my own. This is the kids during culture camp. They learn how to hunt, safety, etc. You can see them field dressing the moose in a lot of the pics. I can honestly say that this is one of the best positions I've ever been in as far as teaching. I'm having a great time. The only downside(s) are the fact that I'm so far away from my family and that it's so expensive to fly home (Ohio). *sigh* However, there's always a trade-off. Wow Eagle, that's amazing that there are that many kids in your class. I pictured you teaching about 6 kids. How interesting that kids get school credit for learning hunting/safety. It wouldn't happen here. We tend to only get credit for "straight forward" courses. I took photography and it was a HUGE deal that we got credit for it. Anything out of the "norm" seemed to be scoffed at. Here's a few of mine of Niagara Falls and the CN Tower in Toronto. The boat is the maid of the mist that takes you through the falls. smg.photobucket.com/albums/v624/CindyM99/niagara%20falls%20pics/Wow, how did that cat pic get in there?

Cindy- it says you need a password to see the pictures. My goal on my dinner break is to get the picture of Maddie in front of the tree for our Christmas cards... so hopefully I'll have something to share later tonite or tomorrow.

Sorry about that Jen. I didn't even know I had my album set to private type in the password: pictures
If that doesn't work I will change it to public so there's no password on it. Photobucket has a ton more features than when I first started on it
Eagle: How do you switch from middle school to highschool? Big difference I would think.

It went ... ok.. there's basically 2 to choose from and MrDill isn't too happy with his face in the one, but of course that's the one that Maddie looks best in... so we'll see.

Eagle: How do you switch from middle school to highschool? Big difference I would think.VERY carefully J/K This is my 10th year teaching, so it just comes down to planning and experience. In middle school, I find that I have to be a LOT more strict or they will walk all over me. HS, not so much. The only issue I've had is some lip here and there (discipline wise). The actual academics are governed by state standards, which is pretty straightforward. I much prefer high school and swore that I would never teach middle school especially, but here I am and it's not too bad.

Eagle, I remember your photos when you posted the link in The Yard. There was a cross on the hill behind your school ... is there a story behind that? I also did an info search on your town, just because I'm nosy and love research, so I'm guessing most of your students are Inuit? How are you finding students raised in an Alaskan culture different from kids in the lower 48? And are most of your kids headed for college or do they even have future plans yet? I guessing Alaskans are very open and welcoming and unassuming. Am I close? I am very interested in this topic!
OKay, so I'm OT in the photo thread ...

Back to the topic of photos ... Cindy, is your cat named Buddy? He looks very cool. How old is he/she? Any other pets? I liked your Niagra photos. I was there many years ago, but it was the end of November, and the Maid was docked, plus other touristy things (like the walk behind the falls) were closed for winter, too. It was a stunning place to visit, though. I didn't need a map to find it once I got into town ... I just drove toward the huge column of mist. And Jen, I forgot to say in the other thread, love the Xmas pjs on all of you!

Yes, his name is Buddy he's 16 now, hard to believe. I can't imagine my life without him, he's my baby. He seems to enjoy doing the photo thing. I had a little girl kitty but she died 3 yrs ago and I don't think Bud would do well with a new kitty.
Yes, it was my first time on the Maid of the Mist, hard to believe since I've lived so close all my life. What a cool experience. The sounds, the water, the people taking pics..amazing!
