LOL Sorry guys on no details in my last post. It was late when I posted. We got along really well, but I think we're going to leave it casual due to long distance . . . flying into Anchorage is expensive! We went out to a couple of really nice dinners and he tried to get me to ice skate, but no dice. I've been ice skating once before in my life and my ankles were in some serious pain afterwards;) So, long story short, I'm willing to stay in touch, but I think that we are going to stay "friends" unless we move closer to each other.

Oh, that sounds decent. If nothing else, it's good to have a friend so far from home.
I hear you on the ice skating..weak ankles don't do well in skates.
Were you okay over Christmas or did you really miss family? It's so cool you were brave enough to move so far away. I tell you, I would give anything to be able to do it.

Eagle- How far apart are you guys exactly? Or more importantly how far are you from civilization? It feels so weird to say that and yet be connected via the internet. So I don't know if I told you guys, but I'm going to be getting a promotion at work. woo! They are laying off someone and I will be adding on his duties.. it's been a long time coming. Lets just say he's not the most productive person in the world. Due to the wonderful economy there will be no pay raise .. but believe me I'll remember it when my review comes around. Jay tells me I should ask for a raise b/c of the extra work/responsibilities but I feel bad doing that when they're basically getting rid of him to keep the company afloat ya know?

Well, it's good news that you aren't getting laid off but more work for the same pay makes it sound like they just came out WAY ahead, but you're right, you can bring it up later that you did this and it would look really good. Ask for more pay, and you could be the next in line to go because you aren't being a "team" player. I'm with you, do it for free and look great...then use it to your advantage later.
One of our more popular news announcers in the area just got a pink slip after a 20 plus year stint with the station. I think I was the only one not shocked. She had had a face lift a few years back and it looked terrible. I even remember commenting to my Mom that she would be the first to go if the station got the chance. Sure enough, there she went and the senior guy now carries the load. It won't be long before he goes too. The kids reporting on the news now are about 20. Sad, but they have to get experience somehow and we are the "sister" station to Toronto so it's a training ground.
Isn't it amazing to think that we could all be in the "boonies" and it wouldn't matter? Internet slogan "Moving, not such a big deal anymore." lol

Yeah.. I prefer to keep my job as long as possible. Ironically the person to be canned is the husband of our one anchor.. and there have apparently been some complaints about her recently.. how people can't take her seriously. I can't say I blame them... she doesn't dress very appropriately and quite frankly can't read half the time. Go figure.

LOL, Cindy and jen, you guys are great. I'm about 300 miles NW of Anchorage on the Yukon. Getting in and out of the village is an adventure in and of itself (especially when I'm travelling with my more furry friends- my two cats). Not to mention it's really expensive. Needless to say, I don't want to "constrain" him by tying him via the internet . . . nor do I want to limit myself, it that makes sense.

Jen-In different times, I would say ask for a raise, but agree now is not the best time to ask for a raise. If anything, the increased workload will give you more skills that you can use in the future.
I had a bit of an adventure today. One of my goals is to visit as many Presiential libraries as I can. So I have been to the JFK, Lincoln and Truman libraries. Today I drove to Iowa, about 4 hours to visit the Herbert Hoover library. It is a super small town and it was pretty quiet there. I was pulled over on the way there cause I was speeding a bit and the cop said my window tint is 4% too dark. No tickets, just a warning. When I bought the car and asked for legal tint on the front windows, they put on legal tint, but over the factory tint which makes it? That's right, illegal. I would have rather them put on a shade lighter and then really have been legal. So I have been driving the car for 6 months and no one has noticed it was too dark.
On the drive back, the sunset was pretty awesome, half the sky was pink and the clouds were super cool. Now I am trying to finish putting together my Ireland pics from my trip last year. I am making a photo book online and then it will be shipped to me.

LOL. OMG I just got a weird picture here ;D
You have cats? I want to see pics...post them, post them!
neira: You are too cool. I LOVE a good library. I want to come on your next adventure. I also love a good sunset. I find it so interesting that the little group on this board has a lot of the same interests, no wonder we get along so well.
Take your car straight back to the place that put the windows in, and make them replace all for FREE. That's ridiculous. Both they and the manufacturer should know what the tinting limits are.
Jen: You have one anchor and she's not smart enough to dress well? You better watch out or you'll be doing her job too:P
Shotgun on neira's next adventure!

Hey guys
Haven't been around much lately - I always forget about this board and check TWoP instead! Bad, I know. I've been busy but hopefully it will calm down now. We got two new people in our department this week so that's fantastic.
Anyway, today I have brunch with an old friend from work (the one getting married in Malta). Then I think I'm going to do some Spring cleaning, a season early. I need to purge the freezer and the kitchen cupboards - they are driving me batty.
Nelra - I love your library adventures. I'd totally do something like that. =)

And after you're done, you're coming to my place, right sabina? I wish. It's great how all of you seem to stay in touch with old friends. Hope you enjoyed your brunch and glad you like the new people at work. At the very least, it takes the load off of you. Did any of you used to watch Joan of Arcadia? I've been having a Joan weekend so far, and realize how great the writing was. It got canned for Ghost Whisperer and I'm still mad at CBS. LOL Went as the devil in the last few eppies was cool too. It's when I first noticed him actually.

Hey there
Sorry Cindy, but no go! =) I'm very happy though - cupboards and freezer are all organized and de-cluttered again.
The brunch was FANTASTIC. It was great to see my friend again. Lots of laughs and catching up on gossip. Then we went down to this museum where our friend is volunteering on Saturday mornings and caught up with her a bit (I see this friend every day at work, but the other friend of course doesn't anymore). Good times. The brunch-friend then went to the hair dresser's to do her wedding hair trial stuff. She's just going to take pictures and email them to the hair dresser in Malta.
The new people at work are pretty cool and yeah, I'm stoked that they are taking some of the pressure off me.
Tonight my friend and I are going to see "Bride Wars" and then go to a house party. Fun fun!!
Never watched "Joan of Arcadia" - but I'd love to see Went as the devil. Sexy! I'm hooked on Supernatural right now. Those Winchester boys are WAY too hot, and the storyline is amazing.

Cindy-you are more than welcome on my next adventure, I will one day have an adventure in your neck of the woods, just not in winter. I think 30 is freezing. Eagle is much braver than I. One good thing about the Ghost Whisperer, Wentworth played a dead guy in the first episode and he looked pretty hot, as he does in almost everything. Has anyone seen "The Human Stain", where Went played a college student in the 1940s. He was pretty hot, but fast forward thru the non- Wentworth scenes, the rest of the movie is crap, no really it is very bad. I have the day off tomorrow and I plan on the gym and then just getting stuff done around the house. I hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Yes and I agree wholeheartedly! Went's scenes are awesome and he is gorgeous, but the rest of the movie - not so great.
Hope everyone has a good week!

Hey all. I haven't had a chance to go back and read much, just skimmed the last few pages, and noticed a couple of you asked about me. I've been busy at work since being off for all of Christmas and New Year's - with a few vacation days to use up before the end of the year, all put together with the paid holidays I had 17 days off. It was awesome! I may dislike my job, but the perks like our holidays are really good. I don't think I'll get 2 weeks off for the hoildays anywhere else. But then, of course, it was back to work and then busy busy busy. And it's hard without a computer at home (I really need to get on that), so I don't have much time to read or post here at work. Bleh. Anyhoo, hope you all had a nice holiday. I'll try to check in more often. And get a computer.

Hey guys. Hope your weekend was as productive as mine. We got snow Saturday but we had time to go shopping first and find a lil quiet mommy time too.. and then sunday after shoveling we ran some errands and took the tree down and did laundry and watched 24. Jay watched the Eagles... I did dinner and laundry and went to the grocery store... no football for me thanks. Eagle... to me the Yukon is a truck.. I think by GM. lol And you guys make me laugh... cleaning out the freezer and cabinets? Please please come to my place... I couldn't tell you the last time I cleaned the bathroom! There's just no time. I am glad to say that the holidays are over... whew... no more having to go here and there and everywhere in a day. Anyone a 24 fan?
